Are you looking for the perfect Christmas gift for someone who owns the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 or Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+? Take a look at the Choetech Fast Wireless Charger. With their newest phones Samsung introduced a new fast wireless charging technology. We expect to see this show up in more phones in the coming years since it’s such an exciting technology. No longer do you have choose between convenient wireless charging and quickly getting your phone up to speed.
The physical device looks a bit unremarkable. It’s just a flat white or black disk with a bit of a shine to it. It looks much like its brother, the mini Qi charger also from Choetech. On the bottom of the device you’ll find grippy rubber feet to make sure it doesn’t slide around and around back is the micro USB port to plug it in. An important note here is that you’ll need a wall adapter that also supports quick charging. Choetech will you sell their quick charger without the adapter to save you a few bucks, but we recommend going with the package deal. It’s a much better value.
On the sides of the device you’ll notice a subtle green light. This is an excellent feature to let you know when your phone is charging. I hate the sound that Samsung phones make when you connect it to a wireless charger so I get around that anyway I can so it’s nice to know my phone is charging without having to mess with it. If you’re worried about that light keeping you up at night, Choetech put in an ambient light sensor to make sure the light dims when you turn out your lights at night. Pretty smart.
If you have a Note 5 or S6 Edge+, the Choetech Fast Wireless Charger will output at 10W. This should charge up your phone from dead to full in a little over an hour in our testing. If you have a phone that doesn’t support the new fast wireless technology, it will still output at 5W. While this won’t get you charged up as fast, it’s still plenty fast to keep you charged up throughout the day. When I was using the charger with my Galaxy S6 I’d routinely leave work with a full battery since I just sat it on the charger instead of somewhere else on my desk.
Choetech has a reputation for making really good products. I’ve been carrying around several of their chargers and cables in my bag for a while now and everything looks and works perfectly even though they’re constantly being tossed around. The Fast Wireless Charger is made to the same standard. The hard plastic body will stand up to a beating if you take it on the road. Are you clumsy and tend to knock things off your table or desk? You should be good to go. Not only is it thin, but it’s small too. No bigger than a coaster, it won’t take up much room on your desk. This is especially helpful if you’re working in a crowded space.
To wrap up, let me address the one question you’ve probably been asking yourself during this review. Is fast wireless charging something I need to spend money on? With technologies like Qualcomm’s quick charging and similar technologies from other companies, is this really necessary? Well, no. But, I will say that once I experienced fast wireless charging with Choetech’s charger, I found it was something I don’t want to go without again. It’s incredibly convenient and I don’t want to have to worry about my phone dying on me when I’m out and about.
Save yourself some dough and pick up Choetechs’ Fast Wireless Charger instead of the Samsung product that can cost up to twice as much.
